When he began filming the “American Pie” franchise, Jason Biggs was struggling with alcohol addiction. The actor was 21 years old when the first film was released in 1999.
In an interview on the podcast The Blocks with Neal Brennan, Jason Biggs shared that he used a trick to hide that he was going through a difficult time.
“Let’s say we were at a party. I’d go upstairs and take a swig straight from a vodka bottle — just enough to get a little buzzed — and then I’d come back down to the party with a beer in my hand,” he explained.
Jason Biggs revealed that this way, everyone around him thought he was only on his first beer, when in fact he was already drunk enough “to socialize and seem normal.”
The actor also said that the success of “American Pie” only made his drinking problem worse.

On the podcast The Well with Arielle Lorre, he recalled that he once ended up rolling around in the trash.
“Before taking Ambien, I thought, ‘Just one more.’ So I went out, climbed onto the dumpster, grabbed the bag of cocaine, and went back to my room to take another line,” he said.
In 2018, Jason Biggs publicly shared that he was seeking help for his addiction. He told his Instagram followers that he had been sober for a year.
“Turns out this s*** is hard. After a few relapses, I finally made it to one year of sobriety. I’m as proud of that as I am of anything I’ve ever done,” he wrote.
“Don’t be ashamed. We got this.”
